Storm Damage Roof Repair in Boise, ID

Roofer inspecting storm damage on a Boise home

Yes. Kings Roofing & Contracting LLC offers free storm damage roof inspections in Boise, answers storm calls 24/7 and responds to roof emergencies within 60 minutes. We repair wind-lifted and creased shingles, torn ridge caps, hail-bruised shingles, dented vents and punctures from fallen limbs, and we tarp active leaks to keep water out while your claim is sorted.

Thunderstorm wind does most of the roof damage in Boise. Hail here is usually an inch or smaller, but it can still crack a shingle mat without leaving anything you can see from the ground. Two 2026 storms are worth checking for: on June 26, a severe thunderstorm brought hail, winds over 50 mph and more than an inch of rain to the Boise area, and on July 23, the National Weather Service warned of quarter-size hail in central Canyon County, near Homedale and Caldwell, and later issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern Ada County. Boise is the center of our Treasure Valley storm damage roofing service, and you can meet our team at our office at 9201 W State St #127, Boise, ID 83714.

Comprehensive Storm Restoration Services We Offer in Boise, ID

Thunderstorm wind creates a lifting force that pulls shingles up and breaks the adhesive seal that keeps your roof watertight. A shingle can fold back, crease and lie flat again, looking normal from the street while it no longer seals. We look for those creases along ridges, rakes and eaves, then re-seal or replace the damaged shingles and secure the roof's perimeter. See our wind damage roof repair page for the full process.

Hail is often a hidden threat. Even stones an inch or smaller can knock the protective granules off your shingles, exposing the asphalt to Boise's intense UV. Left alone, those spots turn brittle and crack. We provide hail damage roof repair that restores the shingle surface and checks vents, flashing and gutters for the dents that confirm a hail strike.

A fallen tree limb can cause immediate structural roof repair needs. Our cleanup crews are equipped to remove heavy debris and perform emergency sealing to protect your home against further rain. We work fast to prevent water damage from reaching your attic and ceilings.

What Storms Actually Do to Boise Roofs

In the Treasure Valley, most storm damage to roofs comes from thunderstorm wind, not hail. The National Weather Service Boise office issues severe thunderstorm warnings for the area, and its local storm reports for Ada County in 2024 describe downed trees, a North End power outage affecting about 2,000 customers, and a Meridian shed thrown into a house by an outflow gust. Boise's building code designs homes for a 90 mph wind, according to the City of Boise's adopted code table, and severe gusts can exceed that locally. Older neighborhoods with mature trees, like the North End and the East End, see the most limb damage; homes on the Bench and in the Foothills take the most direct wind.

Hail here is real but usually modest, often an inch or smaller. Idaho is not one of the leading hail states: Texas and Kansas had the most hail events in 2025. That matters because small hail damage is easy to miss and easy to dispute, so it needs a close, photo-documented roof inspection rather than a look from the driveway.

What to Do After a Storm Damages Your Boise Roof

  1. Stay off the roof. Wet, storm-damaged shingles are slippery, and damaged areas can give way. Everything below can be done from the ground or inside.
  2. Take dated photos. Photograph shingles in the yard, dented gutters and vents, fallen limbs and any ceiling stains, with the date visible.
  3. Stop active water. The Idaho Department of Insurance's claims guide tells homeowners to cover holes in the roof with a tarp, keep receipts for emergency repairs, and hold off on permanent repairs until they have talked to their insurer. If water is coming in, call us 24/7 and we will tarp the leak.
  4. Confirm the storm date. NOAA's Storm Events Database lets you look up reported hail and wind events for Ada County by date.
  5. Get a free inspection before you file. Book a free storm damage roof inspection and we will photograph every damaged area and tell you whether the damage looks larger than your deductible. The Storm Claim Check below does the same math.
  6. File with evidence in hand. Check your policy's filing deadline, since some insurers now allow as little as six months after a storm, then call your insurer. Our insurance claims assistance covers the roofing side: photos, a line-item estimate and a meeting with your adjuster on the roof.
  7. Report widespread damage to the state. After major storms, the Idaho Office of Emergency Management's Report Damages page collects damage reports that help decide whether disaster assistance is available. It is not an insurance claim and does not replace one.
  8. Permit the permanent repair. Boise reroofs are filed on the city's application 428; we pull the permit so the repair is inspected and on record.

Hail Impact

Dark circular bruises, granule loss, or dented vents.

Fractured shingle mats that fail during future freeze-thaw cycles.

Heavy Rain

Bubbling interior paint or damp attic insulation.

Mold growth and structural weakening of the wooden rafters.

Fallen Debris

Cracked tiles, punctured shingles, or sagging gutters.

Immediate structural compromise and safety hazards.

Navigating Insurance Storm Damage Repair in Boise

We document the damage and price the repair; your insurance company's adjuster decides what the policy covers. Idaho law requires anyone who negotiates a claim on a homeowner's behalf to be a licensed public adjuster (Idaho Code 41-5802 and 41-5803), so our insurance claims assistance stays on the roofing side: photos and measurements of every damaged area, a line-item repair estimate, and a meeting with your adjuster on the roof to show what we found and answer questions about our scope. That documentation helps make sure hard-to-spot damage is seen, so you can afford a quality roof repair or replacement without cutting corners.

One Boise-specific point: if your home is in the city's wildfire zone, a storm reroof must meet the Class A roof rule in Boise City Code 5-12-53. The Department of Insurance notes that standard homeowners policies do not pay the added cost of meeting current building codes unless you carry Ordinance and Law coverage, so check your declarations page.

Storm Claim Check

Before you file: see what your deductible and roof coverage would likely leave you with, using the method the Idaho Department of Insurance explains.

Use your roofer's written estimate if you have one.
Check your declarations page. Some policies have a separate wind, hail or roof deductible.
Only needed for a percentage deductible.
Next steps:
Confirm a storm hit on your date in NOAA's Storm Events Database or the Ada County storm report archive.
After a major storm, report damage to the Idaho Office of Emergency Management (this is not an insurance claim).
Read the Idaho Department of Insurance claims guide, then book a free storm damage inspection or call (208) 803-8341, 24/7.

This is an estimate, not insurance advice or a coverage decision. Your insurer decides coverage and sets its own depreciation schedule; the actual-cash-value estimate here assumes straight-line depreciation over a 25-year roof life, the typical useful life the Idaho Department of Insurance uses in its example. Replacement cost policies often pay the depreciated amount first and the rest after the work is done and documented.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I tell if my Boise home has roof storm damage?

Storm damage isn't always as obvious as a missing shingle. After a high-wind event, check your yard for shingle pieces and look along the ridge and roof edges for lifted or folded shingles. Hail damage is often invisible from the ground: look for granules piling up at downspouts and for dents in gutters, vents and window screens. If your home was in the path of the June 26 or July 23, 2026 storms, or you saw hail larger than a quarter or wind strong enough to bring down branches, schedule a professional roof inspection to find damage you can't see from the ground.

Usually, when the damage comes from a sudden covered event such as wind, hail or a falling tree, and not from age or wear. How much it pays depends on your policy. The Idaho Department of Insurance explains that replacement cost coverage pays to replace the roof without deducting depreciation, while actual cash value pays a depreciated amount, and that some policies pay only actual cash value on roofs even when the rest of the home is replacement cost. Some policies also carry a separate wind or hail deductible, or a roof-specific deductible. Check your declarations page before you file.

Start with a free roof inspection, then decide. The Idaho Department of Insurance suggests checking your deductible first: if only a few shingles are damaged, paying for the repair yourself may make more sense than filing a claim, but some damage can't be seen without a roof inspection. Kings Roofing & Contracting LLC will inspect the roof, photograph what we find and tell you whether the damage looks larger than your deductible, so you can file with evidence in hand or skip a claim you don't need. The Storm Claim Check on this page runs the same comparison.

It depends on your policy, not a single Idaho deadline. Some insurers now allow as little as six months after a storm, and others still allow a year. The Idaho Department of Insurance tells homeowners to ask their insurer how long they have to file and to report damage as soon as they know about it. Report early anyway: waiting lets further damage such as leaks and rot develop, which an insurer may treat as neglect. If you have replacement cost coverage, there is usually a separate time limit, often six months to a year, to finish repairs and collect the withheld depreciation.

Kings Roofing & Contracting LLC provides free storm damage roof inspections in Boise and across the Treasure Valley from its office at 9201 W State St, answering storm calls 24/7 and responding to emergencies within 60 minutes. We inspect shingles, flashing, vents and gutters, photograph every damaged area, tarp active leaks, and meet your insurance adjuster on the roof to walk through what we found. Request a free storm damage roof inspection.

Yes. Boise is prone to microbursts and thunderstorm outflow winds that can lift shingles without blowing them off. That leaves a creased shingle, where the mat is broken along a fold. A creased shingle looks normal from a distance, but it has lost its seal and will eventually let water in. Our wind damage roof repair team checks ridges, rakes and eaves for these creases.

It depends on your policy's wording. The Idaho Department of Insurance explains that replacement cost policies pay for repairs with materials of "like kind and quality," not upgrades, and your policy decides how a mismatch is handled. If your shingles are discontinued or a patch cannot reasonably match, we photograph and note the product and the difference so your adjuster can evaluate it. The coverage decision is the insurer's.

It can; there is no blanket rule. Each insurer sets its own rating practices, and your claim history is one factor. The Idaho Department of Insurance suggests weighing the size of the damage against your deductible before filing, since minor damage may be cheaper to repair yourself. A free inspection tells you whether the damage likely exceeds your deductible before you decide.

No. Under Idaho's Public Adjuster Licensing Act (Idaho Code 41-5802 and 41-5803), anyone who negotiates or settles a property claim on a homeowner's behalf for pay must be a licensed public adjuster; attorneys are the other exception. A roofing contractor can inspect and photograph the damage, write a repair estimate, meet the adjuster on the roof to show what they found, and answer questions about their own scope. That is what Kings Roofing & Contracting LLC does.

Only for part of it in many cases, depending on your policy. In Boise's wildfire zones, a reroof or a replacement of 50 percent or more of a roof within 12 months must meet the Class A rule in Boise City Code 5-12-53. The Idaho Department of Insurance notes that standard homeowners policies do not cover the extra cost of meeting current building codes unless you have Ordinance and Law coverage. If your old roof already carried a Class A rating, as most modern asphalt shingle roofs do, a like-for-like replacement meets the rule; the gap shows up when an older roof, such as wood shakes, has to be upgraded.
